McKellar Scholarship for Liam Bonthrone

Liam Bonthrone

Liam Bonthrone, a founder member of Perth’s Jambouree Singers has been awarded the McKellar Scholarship at Paisley Abbey. The award, worth £2000, was set up in memory of legendary Scottish tenor Kenneth McKellar and is aimed to support a male chorister at Paisley Abbey – the church with which the singer had a close association for many years.

Liam joined the Jambouree Singers in 2005 and has continued to sing with them all through his school days and whilst studying at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow. Abbey organist, George McPhee said: “The scholarship will be awarded in conjunction with the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. The scholar will be probably be a tenor, but not necessarily, and will fulfil all the engagements of the choir on a Sunday.”
