Christmas Concert – 2020 ‘Safe and Sound’

Our 2020 Christmas Concert was recorded over a couple of wet and windy weekends at St Mary’s Monastery, Kinnoull, Perth. At a time when choirs have found it impossible to rehearsal and perform; with lockdown restrictions limiting gatherings to ‘the rule of 6 and just two household’; concerns about aerosol spread of the virus with indoor singing….

….Jambouree made its case to the Scottish Government about singing outdoors (for a recording) – a Christmas Concert at a place of worship where a maximum of 50 could gather from multiple housholds – provided that the proper risk assessment was in place – and the 2m rule applied (other than for those in families or in a bubble).

Music Director Edna Auld said, “The Redemptorist Fathers at St Mary’s could not have been more helpful. They did everything possible to make us welcome as we gathered in their beautiful Monastery Garden on the wooded slopes of Kinnoull Hill.”

“The wind and the rain proved a real challenge but the thrill of performing together as a choir after so many months helped us overcome the elements.”

Long-standing choir members, Liam Bonthrone and Kenneth Maciver were unable to travel to Perth but they still joined the celebration with their traditional seasonal contributions from London and the Amsterdam. Another long serving choir member, Teenah Bee, had missed the tight recording schedule, but she has made a late addition to the concert, offering us a beautiful setting of the Carol ‘Veni, Veni Emmanuel’.
