There are currently two sections of the Choir – one for juniors, the other for secondary students and over 18’s. The sections meet at separate times during school term times in St. Leonard’s in the Fields Church Perth from May until mid June, September till October, and St. John’s Episcopal Church, Perth during the winter.
St. Leonard’s in the Fields Church is scheduled to close and an alternative venue will be used. However, this is not expected to happen in 2025.
Jambouree Choir is a choir of people who enjoy singing and come from a wide variety of singing and vocal music experiences. There are singers with degrees in music, experienced singers, and adults who enjoy singing with experienced singers. Some singers in both the junior and adult sections are from Bulgarian, Polish and Ukrainian backgrounds. Members are very supportive of each other and many friendships are made. Singers from abroad are most welcome.
The vocal tutor trains some singers for eg participation in the local competitive Music Festival or solos in concerts. Some singers have gone on to become, or training to be professional opera singers, or others gain drama and music theatre degrees. However the main objectives of the Choir are to promote confidence in singing, singing for enjoyment and the ensuing health benefits. Jambouree performs music ranging through Scottish songs, songs from musicals, classical and popular songs, and opera.
Two concerts take place each year, in June and December. The Choir is available for both charity events, and concerts for which Jambouree Choir may be given a donation for funds.
Voluntary leaders comprise musical director, vocal tutor and choreographer. There are no paid leaders. The musical director is formerly Perth and Kinross Council’s Arts Coordinator and a qualified teacher, the vocal tutor a singing teacher, and the choreographer, a former university lecturer in Education, and previously a primary school headteacher.
Jambouree Choir is enrolled in PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) Scotland.
Membership of Jambouree is completely free to all members. Music is supplied, and appropriate courses or training paid for from funds. Social events are also funded. This ensures that no one is excluded from membership. There is no vocal audition to become a member. Members are expected to attend regularly.
Jambouree receives no funding from any source. Funds are raised through concerts and donation to support eg hall hire, music, photocopying, instruments, social events, and other expenses.
Jambouree has a bank account and Treasurer, with cheques signed by her and another signatory. Spreadsheets are maintained by the Treasurer detailing expenditure.
All receipts for purchased items or services for Jambouree require to be submitted to her for reimbursement.
If any member is unable to attend a rehearsal/s it is helpful if the information is posted on Jambouree Facebook.
